Beyond the City โ 3.5โ4 HR DRIVE ยท OVERNIGHT RECOMMENDED
Seabrook
Nothing about Seabrook existed before 2004 โ it's a planned New Urbanist beach town built deliberately walkable, with a car-free square, pastel cottages on rocking-chair porches, and the entire wide, flat Washington coast at the end of every street.

The Plan
Leave early
The drive runs I-5 to Olympia, then US-12/SR-8 to Aberdeen, then north on SR-109 through Hoquiam to the coast. Gas and food are sparser the closer you get โ top off in Aberdeen.
The town square
Seabrook's entire commercial core is car-free: a green ringed by shops, a bakery, and the deliberately absurd 'Curse of Pirate Death' mini golf course.
The beach
Flat, wide, and dog-friendly, running for miles in both directions. Kites, driftwood forts, and low-tide agate hunting are the entire activity list, and that's the point.
Lunch in town
A handful of small restaurants and a market cover the basics โ nothing fancy, everything walkable from wherever you're staying.
Griffiths-Priday State Park
A short walk north of town where the Copalis River meets the ocean โ dunes, driftwood, and far fewer people than the main beach.
Need to know
- Do the math before committing to a single day: it's roughly 7โ8 hours of driving round trip. An overnight in one of Seabrook's rental cottages changes the trip entirely.
- The town center is genuinely car-free โ expect to park at a peripheral lot and walk in with your bags.
- Summer weekends book cottages out well in advance; this isn't a spontaneous overnight in July.
- Amenities thin out fast past Aberdeen โ fill the tank and grab any supplies you need before the last stretch on SR-109.
Common questions
How far is Seabrook, WA from Seattle?
About 3.5 to 4 hours by car, driving through Olympia and Aberdeen before heading north on SR-109 to the coast โ the longest drive of any trip on this list.
Is Seabrook a real town or was it built recently?
It's a planned community built starting in 2004 in a deliberately walkable, New Urbanist style, with a car-free town square and cottage rentals rather than a historic town center.
Is Seabrook better as a day trip or an overnight?
Overnight, honestly. At 7โ8 hours of round-trip driving, a single day leaves very little time on the beach โ renting one of the town's cottages for a night changes the math completely.
