Dossier 08 — The Territory

Georgetown

Seattle's oldest neighborhood and its least polished — a brick-and-corrugated-steel strip between the Duwamish River and Boeing Field where the city's working past never left, it just got murals.

Best atSecond Saturdays — Art Attack night

Georgetown runs on one walkable stretch of Airport Way South, lined with 1900s brewery buildings from the old Seattle Brewing & Malting Co. — once the biggest brewery west of the Mississippi. Today those brick halls hold artist studios, oddball shops, and some of the city's most reliable bars, all under a flight path that sends jets from Boeing Field low overhead. It's loud. It suits the place.

Come on the second Saturday of the month if you can, when the Georgetown Art Attack opens studios and galleries down the whole strip. Any other day, the routine is: browse the vintage trailers-turned-shops, dig through the antique mall, eat exceptional tacos in a Day-of-the-Dead courtyard, and settle into a century-old saloon while the planes rattle the glassware.
